About The Author

Rudie Obias

Rudie Obias is a screenwriter, podcaster and blogger living in New York City. He is a graduate of Cleveland State University (2003); he was a student of Philosophy, Political Science and (of course) Film. He is also a mediocre musician. On first appearance you'd think Rudie was just another hipster from Williamsburg; well, you'd be wrong, he lives in Bed-Stuy. He has an obsession with v-neck & button down shirts, tote bags, NPR and bars in Brooklyn.

This trailer is just as good as the film itself! Interpret that as you will.

I don't think the trailer does the film justice. Although, I feel like the art of making a trailer has had it's ups and downs recently. Trailers years ago were so deceptive in their marketing of a film. Today, while some are frustrating in that they unknowingly give away key plot points to the audience, others manage to tease the very nature of film itself.

Agreed, trailers can be horribly frustrating once you have seen a film. The trailers of old always seemed to just play scenes from the film itself while flashing film reviews over the images. The modern trailers always seem to tell you the whole story, making you hope that you forget what you have seen by the time the movie opens. Concerning Under the Volcano, I think the trailer presents the film pretty accurately. However, I am NOT a fan of the movie, so I interpret the unpleasant music and gratuitous actorly praises with tainted eyes.

I too was a little turned off by the movie at first. But, as usual, I completely fell in love with the movie after viewing all of the bonus materials. I could listen to John Huston read the phone book on my headphones and be content all day long. The documentary footage on the set is a lot of fun, and the commentaries are insightful.
