Earlier today, Tribeca organizers have announced their lineup for the films not in festival competition. Some of these films are world premieres or have already premiered at other film festivals like Sundance and SXSW. Organizers have created four separate categories for these films. Encounters, Discovery, Cinemania and Spotlight are the sections of interest for non-competition films.

The Encounters section contains films from already established filmmakers. Chuck Workman will be premiering his documentary “Visionaries” and filmmaker Edward Burns is premiering his film, “Nice Guy Johnny” as well.

The Discovery section provides an audience to first time or new filmmakers. There are 17 films in all and highlights new talents like Bryan Goluboff, whose film, “Beware the Gonzo” will be making its world premiere.

The Cinemania section feature flumes that slant towards the eclectic and strange. From outrageous, hyper-real comedies to Hong Kong action violent rampage films, this section is exactly what the name suggests.

“We are proud of how the entire program reflects the scope of filmmaking that is happening in the world today. Cinemania is a great cross-section of genre films. Asia has a strong presence with horror and action, while the Americans and Irish deliver the out-there humor,” said David Kwok, Director of Programming, according to the Tribeca Film Festival press release.

The Spotlight section highlights acting performance from Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba in Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer In Me”. Films starring Robert Duvall, Colin Farrell, Amanda Peet and Rebecca Hall will also be showcased.

The Tribeca short film selection will be announced on March 18th.
