Lars Von Triers Antichrist To Receive The Criterion Treatment [Travis Predicts - Confirmed!]

By Ryan Gallagher On April 7, 2010 At 6:28 pm ·

Well folks, it would seem that the fine folks at Criterion wanted to send Travis off on his adventures with a bit of an inflated ego. In today’s e-mail newsletter, where they tend to drop some significant hints at upcoming releases in the form of an illustration, they included the fox seen above, chewing on it’s own entrails. This of course is the same fox seen in Lars Von Trier’s controversial film, Antichrist.

From The Criterion Collection Newsletter

[Edit: I forgot to add this Twitpic that Criterion tweeted out March 30th. It's a little dark, but is most likely from Antichrist as well.]

Chaos reigns?

Hmm, sound familiar? Well that’s because way back in December, our own Travis George made one of his infamous predictions about a future Criterion release, regarding Antichrist finding it’s way into the collection.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited to see more Von Trier in the Criterion Collection? Will this be a Christmas release? Any thoughts on the idea that we now have a Willem Dafoe playing Jesus in The Last Temptation of Christ, AND in Antichrist, in the Collection? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

how could this NOT be good news?! travis is a genius, and i am extremely glad for the accuracy of this prediction.

Fair enough, but didn't Travis also predict that Antichrist would sweep the Golden Globes?

  • RudieObias

he also said THE BLINDSIDE would win best picture this year. 1 for 3 ain't bad… :)

I predict that when the dvd comes out some lame reviwer will assert that Von Trier's films started going donwhill since “the America-bashing diatribe Dogville. I'm with Travis on Dogville- I think it's great. But it's not a Dogma 95 film because of its obvious artifice. That got me thinking, are any of Von Trier's films Dogma? I can only think of Breaking the Waves and The Idiots.

BTW, I am sure that many have reported this before, but if not I will just say that not only is the Netflix On Demand's version of The Most Dangerous Game not the Criterion print, it's also colorized(!?).Ted Turner's revenge?

  • Benji O

To respond to Brian Pheon's post, THE IDIOTS is Von Trier's only Dogme-certified film.

****SO excited for ANTICHRIST to join the Criterion ranks!!! If only I could pre-order now.

Thanks, Benji. Didn't know there are Dogma certificates, although the movie Dogma is certifiably crappy.

Maybe they can get three (four? Did he do Zissou?) time Criterion cover artist (and a college acquaintance) Eric Chase Anderson to do the Antichrist cover art-he surely could bring some of his and his brother's patented whimsy to the task.
