The Criterion Cast Is Celebrating One Year In Podcasting, And They Are Giving You Their Birthday Presents

It is hard to believe that we’ve been doing this for a year now.

I can’t really tell if I think the year has flown by, or if it feels like we’ve been at this for years. It was only last July when Rudie, Travis, and I joined forces over Skype, after a few ideas thrown around on Facebook and Twitter led us all to think that three guys talking about The Criterion Collection on a semi-weekly basis would be interesting and entertaining. Well, I don’t know about those last two, but I know that we have talked a whole lot about the Criterion Collection over the past twelve months.

I for one, am constantly working at tweaking and modifying this endeavor, from the components that go into our website, to the various segments and scripts we have for our podcast. Now that we’re coming up on our anniversary, we want to include all of you readers and listeners in our celebrations, and in learning how we can make our show even better over the next year.

I’m going to lay out my ideas below, as far as the feedback that we’re looking for, and the prizes we’re giving away to help celebrate our podcast’s birthday. I’m going to preface this all by saying: this is our first real contest / giveaway, so bear with us.

The Idea:

Before starting this Podcast and Website, none of us had any formal training in these areas that we’ve had to work in, so things like the music we use to separate the segments, to the artwork that we use in iTunes, were all done on the cheap, and the quick. We’d like to have some help from all of you talented readers and listeners. So if you are tired of hearing the same piece of music introduce our news segment, or the new releases segment, write us a short piece of music to use instead.

In addition to music for the show, we’re also interested in logo designs, album artwork, or even new profile pictures. Maybe you imagine we look a certain way based on our voices? Why not send in your illustrations?

If you are neither artistically nor musically confident, we also want to hear about your thoughts on our show. What have we done well over the past twelve months? What do we need to work on? (we have some pretty good ideas about this one)

Maybe you have fond memories about a certain episode? A favorite guest appearance? Have we made you add your new favorite movie to your Netflix queue? A particularly funny nerd out moment on a Disc 2? Let us know!

Prizes:

So what we’re going to do, to reward all of you for listening to us week in and week out, is give away all kinds of awesome stuff. Well maybe not all kinds, but some kinds? I have a box of shirts, mostly larges and extra larges, of Criterion Collection shirts, in Maroon, Grey, and Dark Blue, that are just waiting for me to take them to the post office and mail you lucky fans. Now, I only have a limited number of these shirts, so we’re going to have to pick the best of the entries (and by best, I mean the ones that obviously put some effort into their entry).

If for some reason we have so many amazing entries, that I just have to give you all prizes, I will go through my DVD shelves, and find you something special, and something hopefully unopened.

If any DVD Distributors are reading this, and want to donate prizes for our readers/listeners, we welcome your assistance!

Rules:

All you have to do is fill out the form below, listing your favorite moments, your thoughts on the show, suggestions, whatnot. If you want to send in artwork, or audio files, feel free to e-mail them to CriterionCast (at) gmail (dot) com.

Please, only one entry per person. If we get people trying to scam their way into free shirts, your entries will be ignored.

Please include your mailing address in the form, and if you don’t use the form below, please put “birthday contest” in the subject line.

If you have a shirt size / color in mind, include that also, but I cannot guarantee that you’ll necessarily get your first choice, based on limited supplies.

Contest entries need to be in our E-mail inbox by 11:59pm on Sunday, July 19th, in order for your entry to be considered, but we love hearing your feedback all year round.

This post will be stuck to the top of the blog until the contest closes.
