With the end of Comic Con, all eyes within the world of film and film journalism turn squarely back on the world of film festivals.
The next major one to see it’s run kick off is the Venice Film Festival, and now that we know Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan will open the festival, with Julie Taymor’s The Tempest doing closing duties, we also know the festival’s jury, headed by one of today’s most well respected, and most vocal directors.
Quentin Tarantino headlines a jury for the 67th Venice Film Festival that includes writer/director Guillermo Arriaga, Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale), Luca Guadagnino, Gabriele Salvatores and composer Danny Elfman, according to Thompson On Hollywood. The festival will kick off on the first of September, and will run until September 11, just a few days after the beginning of what many believe to be the world’s most important film festival, the Toronto International Film Festival.
While this isn’t a massively huge news story, you couldn’t ask for a bigger collection of international filmmakers to sit back and judge what is often a collection of films that lead us into the fall’s Oscar season. Amongst the likes of Sundance, Toronto and Cannes, Venice is a film fest that doesn’t quite get it’s due, so hopefully this will shine an even bigger light on one of the most historic festivals the world of film has.
