Steven Soderbergh To Helm Film Adaptation Of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

As arguably the most prolific filmmaker working today, Steven Soderbergh (Che, Traffic, Schizopolis) has just tossed yet another film on his ever growing slate.

THR is reporting that the director is in early talks to take over the directing job on the upcoming, and long gestating, film The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Based on the famous TV series, the film was last seen with Max Borenstein as a writer and David Dobkin as the director, but is now set to be not only helmed by Soderbergh, but penned by The Informant scribe Scott Burns.

Soderbergh himself is just coming off a new action film, Haywire, starring Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender, and has jumped aboard this film, based on the TV show that followed both American and Russian members of a secret agency known as the United Network Command For Law And Enforcement. James Bond creator Ian Fleming was even credited as one of the show’s creators, so you know there is a great pedigree here.

Personally, I love this news, particularly because I think Soderbergh is an absolute chameleon of a filmmaker. He’s a fantastic director, and I would really love to see him take on yet another spy film. The premise is intriguing, Burns is a fantastic writer, so all in all, this sounds like it is going to be one hell of a film.
