Who says there’s nothing good to watch? Last month we reported that Netflix had added 35 films from the Criterion Collection to it’s Watch Instantly feature. It looks like the good times keep on coming, as they just added even more. Below you’ll find all of the Criterion films that were recently added, along with their plot descriptions, as given by Criterion.com. I’ve also given the link to the Criterion page, so that you can actually buy the film. A huge thanks goes out to the folks at Streaming Soon, for providing me the heads up to all of these releases, well in advance. If you are looking for a resource regarding upcoming Netflix Watch Instantly movies, I’d highly recommend checking out their blog. If we’ve missed anything, or if you have any thoughts on the films below, leave some comments at the bottom of the post. [Update 1/22/10 - Netflix Added Even More Criterion Films To Watch Instantly] Well, as listeners of the podcast are well aware of, we love Netflix here on CriterionCast. Specifically we love the ability to watch movies quickly and easily without having to wait for a disc to be delivered to our mailboxes. While I personally long for the day that Netflix begins offering all of the bonus materials, along with commentaries on their streaming films, it is a treat to have these incredible films available in an instant.
On the latest episode of CriterionCast, we discussed the recent rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire were attached to a remake of Carol Reed’s The Third Man.
The single discs are going for $11.97 a pop, the box sets are down to $59.97, and the epic 50-disc “50 Years of Janus Films” is on sale for $510. The deal is also extended to those pre orders for the upcoming fourth volume.
If you are looking to spend about $20 per disc, you can’t go wrong with this sale. Thanks to @Criterion’s tweet about the sale. Jump to JR.com here. *Update – 9/1/09 – The price has jumped back up to $24.99* Hey Criterion Addicts! Over at Amazon, they have Carol Reed’s 1949 film, The Third Man, for only $15.99 (the DVD is $16.49!). This is most likely a limited time sale, so get it while it’s cheap. It’s one of the only Criterion Blu-Ray’s at 60% off, and they are out of stock, but still taking orders. I’ll update the post when the price goes back up. You can head over to Amazon by clicking the above link, or the image, and a small portion of the sale will go to helping the CriterionCast stay alive! |
