Tribeca Film Festival 2010 Preview: Tarik Saleh’s Metropia

Welcome back to our series of preview of films screening at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival, April 21st through May 2nd in New York. Tonight, we’re looking at the first animated film in our previews so far, but no, we’re not bringing you the trailer for the next Shrek movie.

Tarik Saleh‘s Metropia presents an animated, sci-fi look into the future, with a cast of independent cinema darlings, like Vincent Gallo, as well as some Criterion alum: Udo Kier and Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd. If you’ve listened to our podcast, then you know how much I love science fiction and animation, which when combined, often lead to great results. Just looking at some of the still images, and the teaser trailer below, the animation looks highly stylized, and well crafted.

Metropia will be screening on April 24th, 25th, 28th, and May 1st. For a complete list of screening times and venues, check out the official Tribeca Page. You can also follow the film on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook, or visit their homepage here.

Don’t forget to follow Rudie’s Twitter feed, to stay on top of all of his Tribeca screenings, and then follow him back here to the blog, where you’ll be able to read his full reviews.

This sci-fi animated thriller directed by Tark Saleh takes place in a not-so-distant future. The world is running out of oil and the underground train systems have been connected into a gigantic subway network beneath Europe. Whenever Roger (Vincent Gallo) from Stockholm enters this system he hears a stranger’s voice in his head. He looks to the mysterious Nina (Juliette Lewis) to help him escape the disturbing web of the Metro, but the further they travel, the deeper he’s involved in a dark conspiracy. Also starring Udo Kier, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, Sofia Helin.
