Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu To Helm Comedy Birdman Next

Best known for horrifyingly oppressive dramas like 21 Grams and Babel, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is apparently heading to something a tad bit lighter for his next film.

THR reports that the director is set to team back up with his Biutiful co-writers Nicolas Giacobone, Armando Bo and also playwright Alexander Dinelaris for a feature entitled Birdman. The film will allegedly start production in March, leaving his long talked about revenge film, The Revenant, up in the air. That film should likely start production after this film is completed, and with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star, expect buzz to be high on that one as well.

As far as Birdman goes, the film will follow the story of a former actor who is on the skids, only to try and start a comeback by launching a Broadway play. The film sounds increasingly lighter than any other film from Inarritu, and should be an intriguing change of pace for the beloved auteur.

Expect a fall festival roll out for this thing next year.
