Bernardo Bertolucci Bails On 3D For Io E Te

While the occasional 3D film doesn’t get this writer super excited, ones with the names of Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola definitely catches my eye.   But of all the potential upcoming 3D projects, none are, or in this case, were, as exciting as Bernardo Bertolucci’s Io e Te.

The film follows the story of a 14-year-old who hides in the basement of his house to help his sister attempt to kill her heroin addiction.   Yeah, the premise isn’t at all suited for 3D, and apparently even Bertolucci knows this.

Variety is reporting that Bertolucci will not be using 3D for this film, and called it ‘vulgarly commercial.’ Sounds like a man truly in love with the format, doesn’t it? Joking aside, the film itself sounds massively intriguing, and with Bertolucci behind it, it’s one of, if not the most interesting project currently in production.   I’m a huge fan of the auteur, so expectations for this sucker are sky high.   What do you think?

  • Why do you feel that the premise isn’t “at all suited for 3D”?
What premise specifically is? 3D use is obviously dictated by the story but surely that comes down to specifics of its use.
Surely it’s not a ‘suited’ or ‘not suited’ situation?
