What’s a director to do when his long time partner in cinematic crime, his director of photography, steps out for his own new directorial effort? Get another one of just as high of quality.

Film Abides (via The Playlist) reports that cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema has joined director Chris Nolan aboard the latter’s next effort, Interstellar. The cinematographer may not be the best known DP in town, but his work with directors like Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) and Spike Jonze with his new film, Her, he’s become something of a hot ticket in Hollywood.

Not much is really quite known about the film as of the writing of this, but the DP will be testing his chops here, as the film will feature lengthy sequences shot in IMAX, and it should be one hell of a visual feast. I’m still quite cold on Nolan as a filmmaker, but I can’t help but think that this could be a real return to form for the director. Seeing him work with a new photographer could be thrilling as well, so again, while this isn’t set in stone yet, this is definitely something to keep a keen eye on.
