Darren Aronofsky Still Wants To Direct RoboCop If MGM Can Get It’s Act Together

It looks like his upcoming take on the character of Wolverine isn’t the only big tentpole project that Darren Aronofsky is looking to spearhead.

According to The Playlist, who recently sat down with the Black Swan auteur, Aronofsky is still hopeful that his long talked about take on RoboCop, a project that fell apart after the backing studio, MGM, went under, will see the light of day.

‘Well, ‘˜RoboCop’ may still happen one day, who knows?’ he said optimistically. ‘It’s MGM and hopefully they’ll clear their stuff up and I’m still interested.  David Self wrote a great script, but the company went under so’¦’

Personally, while this may not be a ton of ground to go on, at the rate that Aronofsky is looking to amp up his budgets, and amp up the size of the projects he is working on, I wouldn’t put this past the realm of possibility.   I mean, who thought he would ever helm a Wolverine film.

Now, that said, at face value, I highly doubt that this will ever get back on the list of projects that Aronofsky will ultimately helm.   He has a similar film, Machine Man, with writer Mark Heyman (Black Swan), which follows a person attempting to turn himself into a robot, currently on his slate, so at this point, it’s not impossible, but I don’t think it’s got a great chance of making it out of that dreaded list of projects that just never got off the ground.

Here’s an interesting question though.  What other Criterion Collection releases would you like to see remade, if any? And by whom?
