David Gordon Green’s Suspiria Remake On Its Way As Financing Solidifies; Shooting In September

Alright, at this point in his career, would anyone have thought that it would be this hard to get excited for a new David Gordon Green film?

With the likes of Your Highness and The Sitter not only being fiscal flops, but genuinely awful piles of laugh-free garbage, Green has become something of a whipping boy, with his post Pineapple Express career being full of nothing but dreadful flops. However, he’s finally found some financing for his long gestating remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria.

Deadline reports that Crime Scene Pictures have come aboard to finance the film, with production set to commence in September. The film is one of the highest profile projects that was seemingly in production hell, but with Green’s failures recently, it seemed like it was highly unlikely to ever see the light of day.   Natalie Portman was attached at one point in time, which doesn’t seem like the case now, so expect a boat load of news coming out of this front relatively soon.

Personally, I could care less about this film at this point. I absolutely adore the Argento masterpiece, and found that say, post Snow Angels, Green could have done anything with the highest grade result.   However, at this stage in his career, I don’t know if he really has it in him to make a great piece of art like he once did.   Let’s just hope I’m wrong, or simply a pessimist.   What do you think?
