First Look At Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist

Well, it’s about time we see something outside of Hollywood for one Mira Nair.

Say what you will about her masterpieces like Monsoon Wedding, her larger budgeted, Hollywood-backed projects like AMELIA or the dreadfully dull Vanity Fair have been anywhere ranging from mediocre in quality, to just plain alarming. But we can all rejoice, as we have come a bit different coming from our beloved auteur.

We have our first look at her new film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and with a cast including the likes of Riz Ahmed, Live Screiber and Kate Hudson (?), this is one to keep a huge eye on.   Her look at the world post-September 11, 2001, the film follows a Wall Street worker whose life changes on that now infamous day.

Personally, as mentioned above, I’m not a huge fan of a lot of Nair’s most recent work, but I do think that she is very much one of the most interesting and intriguing filmmakers working today, with a singular and massively assured voice that is solely hers.   Given this drastic and heavy subject matter, this should be something unlike anything we’ve seen from her before, but stuffed with her familial drama, which she loves so dearly.

What do you think?
