First Trailer Hits For Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color

Of all the films announced to debut at this January’s Sundance Film Festival, there may not be a single bigger release than the return of Shane Carruth, Upstream Color.

The film, starring Carruth, Amy Seimetz, Andrew Sensenig and Thiago Martins, has seen a new trailer arrive, and it looks as enigmatic and exciting as Carruth’s previous work, the brilliant Primer.

Best described as a series of images, the trailer doesn’t do much to tell us what to expect from the film narratively, but instead gives us a glimpse into what is this film’s mind. Featuring gorgeous cinematography, the film looks to be dense, visually inspired (look no further than the Fountain-esque cell sequences) and unlike anything we’ve seen in quite some time.

Personally, this is my most anticipated film of 2013. There is not a single filmmaker around quite like Carruth, and while he only has one film to his name, Primer is so fantastic, that it’s nearly impossible not to be excited for this sucker. Here’s to hoping the film can match both the hype and the potential.
