Gad Elmaleh Joins Costa-Gavras’ ‘Le Capital’

Even the best filmmakers sometimes have trouble finding casts for their films.

According to Variety, Gad Elmaleh (last seen, kind of, as Ben Salaad in ‘˜The Adventures Of Tintin’) is the latest actor to take on the lead role for the upcoming Costa-Gavras film, ‘˜Le Capital.’

Originally intended for Vincent Cassel, then offered up to Mathieu Kassovitz, the project has been hanging around for some time now, but now finally seems to have found its man in Elmaleh. The project is Costa-Gavras’ attempt at taking a look into the world economy with Elmaleh tapped for the role of Marc Tourneuil, a banking head who is set to be taken over by US investors.

Based on a novel from Jean Peyrelevade, himself a former banker, the project is easily one of the most interesting pieces currently floating around.   Costa-Gavras is one of cinema’s most well respected names, and this is a premise that seems right up his alley.   The economic crisis is a topic just waiting to get discussed by Gavras, so here’s to hoping this is the last casting change we hear of from this project.
