Gojira Star Akira Takarada Filmed A Cameo For New Godzilla Film

Fans of the Godzilla film franchise have seen better days, but with an interesting twist of fate, it looks like some of the old school Godzilla will be making its way into the brand new reboot.

WB tweeted a link this week (hat tip to Dread Central) that reveals that none other than Akira Takarada (who portrayed Hideto Ogata in the original Gojira) has filmed a cameo in the upcoming Gareth Edwards-directed franchise re-starter.

Personally, while his role will likely be small, it’s interesting to see Edwards reference the past for this supposed reboot, especially in a way that only hardcore fans will ultimately care about. The average moviegoer isn’t going to care about Takarada’s involvement, but fans (or at least I) find this really great news.

And the fans were apparently involved in this in the first place. With its beginnings in a Facebook campaign, Takarada’s was the first scene shot for the picture, and reportedly bridges the classic pictures with this new project. All in all, this sounds absolutely fantastic. I really can’t wait to see this film.
