Harold Lloyd Gets The TCM Spotlight Next Thursday

lloydframed

With a Criterion Collection-approved release of his classic Safety Last pending, Harold Lloyd will not only be getting the spotlight thrust upon him by that, but with Cannes set to feature the very same film as part of their classics lineup, TCM is about to do one of the most extensive retrospectives of the comedic legend’s filmography as we’ve ever seen.

Thursday, May 23, TCM will be spotlighting the comedian as part of their primetime lineup. 20 features and shorts will be shown during this block, which commences at 8pm EST sharp, with a screening of none other than Safety Last.

Other features included here will be The Freshman, The Kid Brother, as well as other lengthier shorts like His Royal Slyness and Now Or Never. Running literally all evening (the final film starts at 5am EST), this collection spans everything from legendary features to extremely rare shorts, and everything in between. A perfect introduction prior to Criterion’s Blu-ray hitting in a matter of weeks, this is must watch TV on May 23. I’ve included a handful of shorts that will be airing below, as well:
