Herzog Eyes A New Documentary Series Entitled Hate In America

Documentary icon Werner Herzog has never been one to keep in the most chipper of moods. However, based on one of the auteur’s upcoming projects, he may very well be treading some of the darkest waters he’s had to tread to date.

THR is reporting that ZDF Enterprises has not only picked up the international rights to Herzog’s On Death Row series, but that they also have the rights to his new, four hour series Hate In America. The project will look into hate crimes in the US. Yup, I can feel the smiling coming over me.

All joking aside, the film sounds like an absolute masterwork waiting to happen, with Herzog getting access to everything and everyone ranging from Neo-Nazis to Ted Kaczynski. The series will hit Investigation Discovery as his last series did as well, with a premiere set for March 2013. Personally, I can’t wait to see the series, but also realize that it will likely be Herzog’s heaviest film to date. Looking at some of the darkest aspects of this very country’s history, the film is perfect fodder for Herzog’s type of documentary, and it frankly can’t get here fast enough.
