Let the mind go a racing.
With its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival pending, Walter Salles and his hugely anticipated return to the big screen, On The Road, has finally found a distributor.
IFC has nabbed the rights to the film, along with Sundance Selects, which stars Kristen Stewart, Garret Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortensen, among others. The film is based on the iconic Jack Kerouac novel, and finds Salles reteaming with his Motorcycle Diaries team of writer Jose Rivera and composer Gustavo Santaolalla.
As a massive fan of Salles and his work, this is great news. This is easily one of my most anticipated films of 2012, and with a release date looming for the fall, this should be one of this year’s biggest award contenders. However, could it be heading for a Criterion home video release? Salles is a director who has always fit the Collection perfectly, and IFC is obvious bunk buddies with Criterion, so hopefully this will lead to a deep home video release.
What do you think?
