IFC Nabs Ain’t Them Bodies Saints As The Most Talked About Sundance Acquisition Yet

aintthembodiesframed

When it comes to films that have made their debut during this year’s Sundance Film Festival, very few films have been more buzzed about and garnered more rave reviews that the allegedly stunning piece of work from director David Lowery. And now it’s finally found a home.

IFC has picked up the rights to Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which stars Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck as two lovers torn apart by the world around them. Garnering comparisons narratively to a film like Badlands, the film has become this year’s smash Sundance darling, seeing people compare it to a similarly beloved picture, Beasts Of The Southern Wild.

With IFC now firmly behind the film, expect it to get a big time push later this year, with much of the respect the film has gained coming in the form of the film’s two lead performances. Oscar may be very kind to this indie darling later this year, so expect a roll out sometime in the fall. Or maybe the Beasts comparisons are apt, and we’ll see it during the summer. It worked out for that film.

Also, of all the recent IFC pickups, this seems the likeliest for a Criterion release. It’s been a while since an American film has bowed in the Collection from the IFC partnership, so this may very well be something to expect come 2014 for home video.
