Jim Jarmusch Bringing Only Lovers Left Alive To Cannes

onlyloversframed

Prior to the announcement of this year’s Cannes Film Festival slate, one film that any and everyone expected to see hit the Croisette was the new film from director Jim Jarmusch. Entitled Only Lovers Left Alive, the film was sorely missed from the initial announcement, and then the Un Certain Regard list, and then the Director’s Fortnight, and even the Critics Week sidebar didn’t include the film.

But thankfully, there’s a reason.

Deadline reports that the film is joining the competition lineup for the festival, and that it will be joined by the new film from director Claude Lanzmann, Le Dernier Des Injustes, which itself is playing out of competition.

Personally, both films are extremely exciting, but while Jarmusch’s film may be getting headlines, Lanzmann’s film is even more thrilling. I don’t know much about the picture, but it does sound like something truly special, as is most of his work. Jarmusch’s film stars Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, so there is a lot of star power behind that picture, so this should really heat up the Croisette when the festival launches on May 15.
