John Woo Producing A Remake Of The Killer In 3D

So, while a South Korean remake of John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow appears to be missing its mark with Hong Kong crowds, apparently the iconic action filmmaker is still fodder for remakes on this side of the world.

Deadline has revealed a sales announcement for Essential Entertainment and Lion Rock Productions’ upcoming remake of Woo’s masterpiece, The Killer, and a few interesting, or not so interesting details have been revealed. While once a part of the Criterion Collection, The Killer is one of the few DVDs that is still relatively hard to find a non-bootleg copy of, at an affordable price.

According to the announcement, the film will be helmed by John H. Lee (A Moment To Remember, Saying Good-bye), with a script by Josh Campbell, and will be in 3D.   That’s right, not only is Woo’s classic action/thriller getting remake, but it will be in 3D.

The film is being produced by Woo himself, so at least his hands will be on it in some sense of the word, and while that’s not all that convincing a point, it does soften the blow a little bit.   But then again, that’s like saying a shield will soften the blow from a hand grenade.   It still kind of hurts.

Joking aside, the film will star Reign Of Assassins star Jung Woo-Sung, and will be an English-language remake of the film.   Hopes aren’t high, but I don’t know what’s worse.   The fact its being remade, or that it will be in 3D.

What do you think?
