Lineup For BAMcinemaFEST 2013 Features Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Spectacular Now And More

With Cannes just a week away and Tribeca now in the rear view mirror, the festival season is very much in full swing. Continuing this is the newly revealed lineup for the New York-based BAMcinemaFEST Film Festival, and this is one hell of a lineup.

Leading the way is David Lowery’s much lauded Sundance darling Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and joining it will be SXSW hits The Spectacular Now (which also bowed at Sundance) and Short Term 12. This year’s lineup includes one world premiere, Hellaware, and 22 New York premieres ranging from the Michael Cera film Crystal Fairy to Andrew Bujalski’s Computer Chess.

Personally, I think this is a really great lineup, but it’s hard to argue that the keystones here are Saints and Spectacular Now. The latter is very much one of my favorite films of 2013, and possibly the biggest surprise of this past SXSW Film Festival. It’s a breathtaking little picture that is mature far beyond its years. It’s really something fantastic, and all of these pictures prove that this summer is much more than just a bunch of bombastic blockbusters.
