Lynne Ramsay Leaves Jane Got A Gun

ramsayframed

Well, this doesn’t bode well for the project.

Deadline is reporting that Lynne Ramsay, director of such films as Ratcatcher and We Need To Talk About Kevin, was a no show on the first day of shooting for what was set to be her next film, a western entitled Jane Got A Gun, and that she has indeed dropped out of the project.

The film is set to star Natalie Portman (who also is billed as a producer on the film), Joel Edgerton, Jude Law and Rodrigo Santoro, and this exit has come as a surprise to just about everyone connected to the project. Michael Fassbender had dropped out of the cast a week or so ago, so it’s possible that that had some weight with regards to this decision, but at this moment, little is truly known about Ramsay’s decision making process here.

Producer Scott Steindorff has revealed that Ramsay has a pay or play deal in place for this project, so it may cost her a pretty penny to get out of the director’s chair here, but it doesn’t look like she’ll be taking the helm for this project. Personally, it’s upsetting. I think Ramsay could be fantastic as a Western director, and this cast is killer to boot. However, hopefully the film can find a director quick, and without compromising the entire thing. Hopefully.
