Michael Arndt Penning Star Wars Episode 7 Treatment, To Be Given To Spielberg, Abrams And Bird

Another day, yet another bit of news revolving around the newly revived world of Star Wars.

While there has been a much talked about skeleton of a narrative for films seven, eight and nine in the cinematic Star Wars universe crafted by creator George Lucas, Disney is handing the reins over to a new scribe, at least for the treatment. Vulture is reporting that Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt has penned a 40-50 page treatment for the seventh film, which will be arriving in 2015.

One of the handful of members of the noted Pixar Brain Trust, the writer’s treatment will be heading across the desks of directors Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams, all of whom will give the project a once over. It should be noted that the idea of Disney offering the project to the highest of A-list talent isn’t shocking, but I would be shocked if any of them took the project. Bird seems like the likeliest option for the project given his part in the Pixar Brain Trust along with Arndt, and he is also the least busy of the trio. Abrams is particularly busy, as the Star Trek universe will be taking him for the next few months. Bird is a perfect option, so hopefully we’ll be hearing him taking the project relatively soon.
