Michael Fassbender And Steve McQueen Reteaming For 12 Years A Slave

Nothing makes this writer happier than to see a burgeoning friendship.

With Shame heating up the fall film festival slate, the pair of Michael Fassbender and his Hunger director have found themselves a third project to call their own, as Variety is reporting that Fassbender will be joining the cast of McQueen’s next picture, 12 Years A Slave.

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film is based on the autobiography of a free black man, named Solomon Northrup, who was tricked into slavery.   Kidnapped on a trip to Washington, Northrup spent 12 years jumping from owner to owner until a carpenter freed him.   Ejiofor will take the lead, with Fassbender likely taking on the role of the carpenter.

Brad Pitt will produce with his shingle Plan B, and this is easily one of the most intriguing projects currently in production.   Both Fassbender and McQueen are two of the most interesting names in their respective fields, and their partnership has bred two fantastic pieces.   I haven’t seen Shame yet, but it’s received nothing but great responses, so hopefully this one will follow suit.
