Michael Haneke’s Palme d’Or Winner Amour Dated For A December 19 Release

Coming off his second straight Palme d’Or win, director Michael Haneke has taken the massive love given to his new film, Amour, and gotten himself a nice, late year release date, primed just enough for an awards push.

The film stars Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant, and follows the story of a husband and wife team who are dealing with the fact that their lives together are coming to an end, as Riva’s lead character is in the twilight of her life. And all that happiness will be on screens thanks to Sony Pictures Classics come December 19.

Amour is easily the most beloved film coming from the Croisette this past Cannes, and it seems to be justly deserving of this late year release. I obviously haven’t seen the film yet, but Haneke is arguably the most interesting filmmaker working today, so hopefully this dark look into love and loss will be just what the doctor ordered come December.
