New Trailer For Steve James’ The Interrupters

After doing the early 2011 film festival rounds, director Steve James’ latest film, THE INTERRUPTERS is set to bow later this month.   And now, thanks to Cinema Guild, the film’s distributors (via The Playlist) a new trailer for the film has hit.

I had the chance to see the film back during SXSW, and while a film like HOOP DREAMS may be a better film, THE INTERRUPTERS is no less powerful.   Following a handful of members of a Chicago organization CeaseFire, the film focuses on the lives of these members and their impact on the youths that they come in contact with in their fight against gang violence.

It’s a breathtaking piece of documentary filmmaking, that is as powerful as it is thought-provoking.   INTERRUPTERS is a lengthy watch, but each moment is filled with this emotional punch, that has subsequently made it one of the most acclaimed films of the year.   One of this writer’s favorite films documentary or narrative, THE INTERRUPTERS is a truly must-see film.  The film hits on July 29 in NY.  Here is planned release schedule (via Kartemquin)
