Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master Hitting In October

October 12 can’t get here fast enough.

Box Office Mojo has revealed that The Weinstein Company has made good on Annapurna Film’s promise of releasing Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film, The Master, a film they financed, on that very date. The film is possibly poised for a late festival run (Telluride?) but will hit in limited release on the 12th.

Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix, the film follows the relationship between a man known as the master and a young man, the former sparking a new religion, similar in build to Scientology. Jonny Greenwood returns to score the film, and joining the lead pair are Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Madisen Beaty and Jesse Plemons.

Personally, I can’t wait for this film.   PTA’s There Will Be Blood was easily my favorite film of the ‘˜00s, and it’s one of the greatest American features in years.   This sounds like it will be nothing but more of the same, so hopefully we’re in for something special.

What do you think?
