Photos Arrive For Polanski’s Venus In Fur

Cannes is now only a matter of days away, and one of the festival’s biggest debuts comes from one of the film world’s most controversial auteurs.

Roman Polanski will be hitting the Croisette this year with his new film, Venus In Fur, and now we have our first real look at the picture.

Starring Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathieu Amalric, the film follows the story of a theater director hell bent on finding the actress for his next project. Based on a play from David Ives and a screenplay from Ives and Polanski, the film is going to be in competition at the festival, and while the premise itself sounds rather small for the festival, Polanski not only adds weight to the picture, but I fully expect this to have many more layers than just a superficial blend of drama and romance in the body of a character study. I’ve been a big fan of much of Polanski’s work, particularly things like The Ghost Writer, and this sounds like a project that is directly up the filmmaker’s alley.
