Rare Footage Of Scorsese And Michael Powell On The Set Of King Of Comedy Hits Internet

If only one could have been a fly on these walls.

While it’s not shocking that director Martin Scorsese would be caught palling around with none other than iconic co-Archer Michael Powell, the idea of actually seeing these two standing side by side is thrilling.

Thankfully, we have that very footage. The Playlist has dug up what appears to be a piece from a documentary looking at the life and career of Powell, finding the Peeping Tom director hanging out on the set of Scorsese’s underrated gem, King Of Comedy.

As a massive acolyte of both Powell (and Pressburger) and also Martin Scorsese, this is absolutely awe-inspiring. I understand that the two were extremely close, even leading to the later finding his wife, Thelma Schoonmaker, through Powell, but it’s just nice to have footage of it. Powell has been such an influence on Scorsese’s career as a whole, that having this bit of history caught on film seems extremely fitting.

Enjoy! There’s also some footage of Powell hanging out at Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Studios.
