Redbox And Verizon Teaming Up For New Streaming Service

And so it continues.

According to reports, the team of Redbox and Verizon are set to take on the monster that is Netflix, with a new ‘joint venture.’ What will this entail? Well, Redbox will use its physical rental system for that side of the model, with a new Internet-based streaming service being launched with assistance from Verizon.

Details are being kept under lock and key, but one should expect this service to be subscription based, with rumor having it that the subscription will also give users access to the physical discs currently in Redbox machines, for one flat fee.

Personally, I find this to be one hell of a move for Redbox, and yet another stake shoved right in the heart of Netflix.   The idea of a flat rate covering both streaming and the physical side of things could be a killer in the wake of Netflix’s own shift in that model months back, so eyes are being kept directly on this story.   We’ll have more when it pops up.
