Roger Avary To Pen Paul Verhoeven’s Jesus Of Nazareth

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen one Paul Verhoeven, but apparently he’s hell bent on coming back to the big screen, and in the biggest way possible.

Last year, the Dutch provocateur hit bookstores with a book he helped scribe entitled ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ and now he’s found a scribe for his long talked about adaptation. With Muse Productions aboard the project as financier, the project has nabbed Roger Avary as its scripter.

Telling a new take on the life of Jesus, with his birth coming after his mother is raped by a Roman soldier being one of the major story changes, this is going to a monster of a movie, and one that we’ll be hearing about for a long time, particularly with a writer like Avary aboard to write. I’m a huge fan of the writer, and while I will surely understand the controversy that this will spark, one would be hard pressed to be shocked that a director like Verhoeven would take a confrontational stance the story. I love the idea of him taking on this narrative, and hopefully, it will live up to the hype.
