Steve McQueen Teaming With Chiwetel Ejiofor For 12 Years Slave, Brad Pitt Producing

After one beloved debut effort in the Criterion approved Hunger, and yet another indie darling set to debut later this year in Shame, director Steve McQueen has finally found some love from one of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Variety is reporting that the director will be teaming with star Chiwetel Ejiofor and producer Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), for a new film entitled 12 Years A Slave.   Pitt’s Plan B will produce the flick, which follows the story of Solomon Northrup, a man who was kidnapped in 1841, only to be rescued from a Louisiana plantation in 1853, 12 years later.

The film sounds really intriguing, and following the erotic drama Shame, it should be a film to definitely keep an eye on.   Shooting next year, the film is the director’s next, which for fans of Fela Kuti, is a bit upsetting.   News surrounding McQueen’s Kuti biopic has really gone cold, and for all intents and purposes, it appears dead.   That said, if this is a film that   took its place, that’s not that big of a loss.
