Sundance 2011 Acquisitions: Errol Morris’ Tabloid And Roger Corman Documentary

With the Sundance 2011 film festival in full swing, we have some distribution acquisitions to tell you about.

First, Sundance Selects has announced that they have nabbed the rights to the Errol Morris documentary, Tabloid.

The film follows the ‘Case of the Manacled Mormon,’ a case involving a former Miss Wyoming, who attempted to kidnap a lover, taking him away from a cult in England.   The film has drawn comparisons to films like Rashomon in its narrative style, and with Morris at the helm, this is definitely one 2011 release that I can’t wait to check out.   Reviews for the film coming out of the festival circuit have been relatively positive, so this will definitely be a film to keep the keenest of eye on.

Not to be out done, A&E IndieFilms have made a purchase of their own.   They have taken the TV rights to the upcoming Sundance premiere, Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel.   The film looks at the life and career of the legendary filmmaker, who will be in attendance at the film’s premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

With the release of Shout Factory’s Corman DVDs, the filmmaker has seemed to find a second wind in the eyes of the film world, and this only embodies that.   Personally, I can’t wait to check this one out.   Corman is a filmmaker that I’ve always been quite a fan of, and I can’t wait to check this film out.
