That Obscure Object Of Desire Coming To Blu-ray From Lionsgate

Long out of print within the ranks of The Criterion Collection, a Blu-ray for the beloved Luis Bunuel film That Obscure Object Of Desire has been announced, and it’s coming soon.

Lionsgate has announced that they will release the 1977 Oscar nominee in HD on January 29, as part of their StudioCanal Collection. Now, specs for the release have yet to be announced, but the release itself will feature interviews with the likes of Jean-Claude Carriere, Carole Bouquet, Angela Molina and even director Carlos Saura. Toss in ‘A Portrait Of Luis Bunuel’ (an interview with Pierre Lary and Edmond Richard) and you have a seemingly deep release from Lionsgate.

Buzz around the company’s home video releases has definitely changed, particularly after a solid job with their transfer for Grand Illusion, so hopefully the same can be said for this release. It’s easily one of Bunuel’s strongest and most singular works, and deserves to be given the highest level of transfer.
