The Weinstein Company Buys Theatrical Rights To J.D. Salinger Documentary

It’s truly Harvey Weinstein’s world, and we all happen to live in it.

With the Weinstein Company head’s name becoming synonymous with awards, Weinstein and his company has just nabbed what is sure to be one of this year’s most talked about, and likely lauded, documentaries.

Deadline reports that TWC has picked up the theatrical rights to Salinger, a new documentary from director Shane Salerno, looking at the life and work of writer J.D. Salinger.

The film itself sounds already, based on the source material, important, but with an alleged 150 interviewees ranging from Edward Norton to Gore Vidal, and while its slated to bow on TV via PBS’ American Masters series, a theatrical run is scheduled for this year, making it eligible for any and every documentary feature award TWC could ever want.

Rumored to be a deal worth around $5 million, this is as hotly sought after a documentary as any we’ve seen recently, so while we haven’t seen anything from this buzzed about film, that will likely change once TWC and their legendary publicity machine gets behind it.
