Trailer Arrives For Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land

While this year’s festival slate has given us a good look at much of what the fall and winter has to offer, there are still a handful of films that are, for a lack of better words, unknown entities.

One of those films is the latest from director Gus Van Sant, a film entitled The Promised Land. Starring Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Hal Holbrook and a cast of others, the film also features a script penned by Damon and Krasinski, based off an idea that the pair of Krasinski and Dave Eggers conceived. The film looks at the concept of hydro-fracking, focusing on a man who heads into a small town, looking to take advantage of the city’s economic fate by making a quick buck.

A new trailer for the film has hit in anticipation of its December 28 release date, and while Van Sant’s last film, Restless, was rather mediocre, this trailer looks absolutely fantastic. I think Van Sant is the perfect type of filmmaker to take on a project like this, and this cast looks to be superb. Expect to hear a lot more about this film as it nears release, especially given its subject matter. This will definitely be a hot topic come Oscar time.
