Coming out of the Cannes film festival, there were very few films that had me waiting with more anticipation than the latest film from Iranian auteur, the brilliant Abbas Kiarostami (Taste of Cherry / Close Up), a film called Certified Copy.
Well, with completely rave reviews coming out of the festival, we finally have our first full length trailer for the beloved film, and I have to say, it looks wonderfully crafted, stunningly acted, and just over all wonderful.
The film had garnered comparisons to films like Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise/Sunset series, and here, you can see why. This new trailer looks visually wonderous, and while it doesn’t have Kiarostami shooting his native Iran like he has in his previous films, the craft here is no less arresting. The film stars Juliette Binoche, who won the Best Actress award at Cannes, and while the film doesn’t have a release date yet, it will be released through IFC, so don’t be shocked if you see a Criterion DVD/Blu-ray release of this film come 2011 or 2012. It’s just a hunch, but when you put two (or in this case a director already in the collection, Kiarostami) and two (Criterion and IFC’s distribution deal) you have to make four (Certified Copy in the collection), right?
