Trailer For David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method

Just about a week after a horribly grainy bootleg copy of the first trailer for the much hyped David Cronenberg film, A Dangerous Method, hit the web, we finally have our first official trailer, and it’s absolutely breathtaking.

The film is based on the play The Talking Cure from writer Christopher Hampton, and stars Michael Fassbender, Keira Kightley and Viggo Mortensen in a story following the breaking apart of the friendship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud after the beautiful Sabina Spielrein is introduced.

The trailer itself looks to be much smaller in scale than many of Cronenberg’s films, but given the mood and atmosphere of the trailer, it looks no less erotically charged.   The film will be hitting stateside thanks to Sony Pictures Classics, and should be an interesting change of pace for Cronenberg.   He’s been working on a much bigger scale, particularly with a film like EASTERN PROMISES, so this smaller, more stage-play style film should be an interesting change of pace.   DANGEROUS METHOD has been described as feeling a bit too ‘stagey,’ so maybe the scale is almost too small, but that will be for you to judge when the film hits later this year.
