Trailer For Gus Van Sant’s Restless Hits The Internet

Despite being best known for his more arthouse focused fair, Gus Van Sant has been able to be one of the rare art film directors to become viable in the commercial realm of filmmaking as well.

While I am a massive fan of Van Sant’s art films, such as the Criterion Collection members Mala Noche and My Own Private Idaho, or films like Elephant and Gerry, his commercial fair has become quite interesting as well.   Last seen directing the stunning biopic, Milk, we now have the first trailer for his upcoming film, Restless, and it looks like a winner.

Starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper, the film follows a teenage girl who falls for a boy who also happens to be a funeral ‘crasher’ as well as having the ability to talk to a ghost of a WWII kamikaze pilot.   Yeah, it’s Gus Van Sant for sure.

The film, set to release on January 28, looks breathtaking.   Looking far more like Milk than a film like Paranoid Park, it looks visually striking, and looks to have two really fantastic lead performances.   I’m a really big fan of Wasikowska, and personally, Gus Van Sant is one of the best filmmakers working today, so this is one I can’t wait to check out.
