Volker Schlondorff Lines Up A New Project

With a new film already making the rounds on the festival circuit, director Volker Schlondorff doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, as he’s already got another film on his mind.

Variety reports that the filmmaker will next helm a picture entitled Diplomacy. Set during WWII, the film follows the story of a German officer who was tasked with aiding in the destruction of Paris, only to find himself befriending a Swedish politician.

Based on a true story, the film sounds right of Schlondorff’s alley, as the subject sounds like one that he’s been hitting on for quite some time, in various WWII-set pictures. Inherently intriguing, the real life story will make for a truly thrilling picture, and one that Schlondorff feels born to have made. Not much else is known about the picture, but with comparisons to things like Downfall and Is Paris Burning, the film seems like it will be a hot commodity when it hits the Croisette, arriving at Cannes next week to be on the selling block.
