Zack Snyder Working On A Seven Samurai Inspired Star Wars Film In The Universe

Well, this is a tad surprising.

Vulture is reporting that Zack Snyder has been tapped by Disney to develop (it’s not sure if he’ll direct the film) a new film in the Star Wars universe, but not directly involved with the upcoming third trilogy in the franchise. Always considered a step that Disney was planning on taking when their acquisition of LucasFilm was announced, the film will simply be a part of the universe, one of what will likely be a series of spin-offs that we’ll see from this world.

Personally, I love this news and it gets even better. According to the report, Snyder will be using Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai as a major influence, continuing this universe’s appreciation for samurai pictures from the king of the genre.

The idea of seeing Snyder get the chance to play with some toys in this universe is really thrilling, and the concept discussed here is quite intriguing. The film would likely see a group team up against a common enemy, and a true blue action film sounds perfect to me, especially with Snyder behind the picture. Hopes are sky high.
