Natalie Portman To Star In Terrence Malick Directed Jerry Lee Lewis Biopic [Updated]

[Update from the Editor: It looks like just as this post was ready to go up, Fox Searchlight announced that they will be distributing Malick’s Tree of Life in 2011, look for a detailed post later today.]

Apparently Natalie Portman (The Darjeeling Limited), after her latest film Black Swan has hit the festival circuit, has become quite the hot commodity.

Along with being offered the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron’s (Solo Con Tu Pareja) Gravity, Risky Business is reporting that the actress has been looked at by one Terrence Malick (Days Of Heaven, The Thin Red Line), for a new film, ‘a Jerry Lee Lewis-related project.’

Malick has been apparently developing the film along with Brad Pitt, and along with Malick’s next film, a project starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams, and the yet to be released Tree Of Life, marks the filmmaker’s most active period of his career.   Remember, this is the same guy who took 20 years off in between Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line.

The director has been working on this film for some time now, and even has a script penned for the film, which was originally described as a rehash of Great Balls Of Fire, a biopic on the legendary artist. Tree Of Life is looking to get a release sometime soon, and with his next film looking to shoot later this month, this biopic may not be too far off.

Toss in Pitt and Portman, two of the more interesting thespians working today, and you have a film that I can’t wait to check out.   What about you?
