Animal Kingdom Trailer

By Ryan Gallagher On March 27, 2010 At 3:07 pm ·

David Michôd’s Australian crime film, Animal Kingdom, made its U.S. premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to catch the screening for this wonderful film. You can read my review here. This was one of my favorite narrative films at Sundance so I was not surprised to see it win the world cinema grand jury prize.

The Australian theatrical trailer has been release by Sony Picture Classics. Animal Kingdom’s Official Website.

Animal Kingdom stars Guy Pearce, Joel Edgerton, Juke Ford and introduces James Frencheville. Written and Directed by David Michôd.

This trailer really does give a good sense of what the film is. The tone is perfect. A rather haunting and chilling piece of music is revealed at the end. I’ll never hear “All Out of Love” by Air Supply in the same manner again. Usually used as a way to show the mopey feelings of a guy who gets his heart broken by a girl, it is used in the trailer as something that is very jarring and abrupt. Used to create a sense of confusion which goes along with the mind set of its protagonist, J. It’s a strange choice but it works very well here.

Animal Kingdom’s Official Synopsis:

Pope Cody (Mendelsohn), an armed robber on the run from a gang of renegade detectives, is in hiding, surrounded by his roughneck friends and family. Soon, Pope’s nephew, Joshua “J” Cody (Frecheville), arrives and moves in with his hitherto-estranged relatives. When tensions between the family and the police reach a bloody peak, “J” finds himself at the center of a cold-blooded revenge plot that turns the family upside down.
