When digging into more obscure foreign cinema, one brand become the go to name for films I knew I would love. Tartan.
With titles like the brilliant Oldboy, and the rather superb and underrated gem of a film, Michael Winterbottom’s 9 Songs, it seemed like every release they would shell out would go straight to the top of my must see list.
However, over the past years, the brand seemed to get bogged down with lesser fair, and according to blu-ray.com, it looks like they have found an answer, in hopes of fixing the name. The outlet is reporting that the company has appointed executive Soumya Sriraman as President and CEO of Palisades Tartan US and UK. The duo of Sriraman and Palisades Chairman Vin Roberti are now looking to “aggressively” build the brand in both parts of the world, with more acquisitions and mergers on their way.
Personally, this is all great news because if there is one company that aided in my growth as a cinephile, it was Tartan. Where I would go with Criterion films when looking at classics to get into, Tartan would be the end all be all name of the genre world, and the idea of them getting back on their A game is more than exciting.
