Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life Screens For The MPAA, Positioning Itself For Awards Season Debut Despite Distributor Woes

Well take this with a grain of salt, but I think this thing may actually see the light of day.

According to Rope Of Silicon, Terrence Malick’s (Days of Heaven, Thin Red Line) upcoming film, The Tree Of Life, has screened for the MPAA, and is ‘finished in terms of music, effects, etc.’ The film reportedly got a PG-13 rating, for ‘some thematic material,’ and while that in and of itself is a rather big non-issue, this is indeed a big step forward.

The film has seen better days production wise, particularly after its distributor, Apparition not only began undergoing restructuring, but even lost one of its head CEOs in the process, but apparently it has finally finished, at least with enough certainty to get a rating.

Where does this leave the film then? Well, most signs pointed towards Venice as a place for the film to premiere, but the more news comes out about it, the more it seems likely that Toronto will actually be the place where the film debuts. However, this does bode well for the former, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility for the film. With Toronto going underway in early September, the film does seem to be on the way sooner rather than later though, which is always a good thing.
