Lionsgate CEO Wants To Distribute MGM Films In-House If The Two Merge

With MGM in the proverbial financial tank, and more and more MGM titles making their way into the Criterion Collection, the latter may not be lasting much longer.

According to Home Media Magazine, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that if the two studios combined, which at this point in time looks to be a likely possibility, all domestic disc distribution would be done in-house, with third parties releasing films internationally.

Apparently, this would bring costs down from $32 million to $27 million, but while we may not know what exactly this would entail, it doesn’t look good for those looking for more MGM films coming through the Criterion Collection.   Now, this could mean new releasing, leaving the classics up for grabs, but at this point, it seems likely that this means much of the entire Lionsgate/MGM catalogue.
