IFC Picks Up Olivier Assayas’ Sils Maria

Olivier-Assayas-framed

Talk about shocking news.

All joking aside, IFC has nabbed up the rights to director Olivier Assayas’ next film, entitled Sils Maria. Penned by Assayas, the film follows an actress as she takes stock of her life, with actresses Juliette Binoche and Mia Wasikowska attached to star in the picture.

The film hasn’t started production, and likely won’t until Binoche ends her time on the upcoming Godzilla reboot, but a Cannes 2014 debut feels like it almost has to be in the cards. Assayas is a beloved filmmaker and there are few actresses on this planet as well respected as Binoche, so if it’s complete, Cannes should be chomping at the bit to get their hands on this. As a fan of Assayas, especially after finally seeing his new film Something In The Air (review coming soon), this picture sounds great and this cast definitely adds a lot to that. He’s been on one hell of a roll lately, so there is no reason to see that stopping anytime soon. And could this be the earliest Criterion gets their hands on a film? I have to believe that, months before it even starts shooting, Criterion has to be all over getting the home video rights to this sucker. Just a hunch.

Oh, and Chloe Moretz has just joined the cast as well.
